Artist Statement

My aim is not to create and restore a memento,
But rather pay homage to a sacred past.
In a simple sense, these reliquaries are my time machines - containing and preserving Philippine history and culture.
Through these miniature artworks, I try to explore and reveal a fragile sense of mystery and embodiment of devotion and nostalgia.
The work is painted with watercolor on pre-banned ivory or oil on mother-of-pearl, each hand cut, carved, polished and encased in an antique reliquary or brooch, which for many years I have searched and found throughout Manila.
The subjects and imagery was inspired by the Semana Santa or Holy Week
as well as my own small antique santo collection.
