Wanderlust as a word in itself, is an adventure, a borrowed word of Germanic origins – Wandernlust. Wanderlust is also when as a child, we take our first crawl towards a destination, whether this destination is towards our excited parents or further to where our curiosity leads us. We explore intuitively, in unfamiliar surroundings that we first call our home. From then on and for the rest of our lives, we establish an intimate relationship with motion, made manifest when we find ourselves in a state of Wanderlust – a desire to simply wander about, with or without purpose or destination, for many reasons that arise from the need to satiate our curiosity to the world beyond and underneath ourselves, or want to find space away from the troubles that beleaguer our peace and comfort.
The title of the exhibit, WANDER LOST, is a wordplay that best describes the bond shared by these artists: that they all believe themselves lost but curiously continues to search for paths untrodden. They will take us further into the wilderness of their memories and imagination, and through their artistic vista and impetus, they evoke our senses away from the mundane and towards the unfamiliar to discover what it means to be in a state of wanderlust.
