Gina Luz Francisco, a multidisciplinary artist, imprints her environment into a series of watercolor paintings of flowers, fruits and butterflies in vibrant colors. In this collection, she detangles the complexity of femininity, artistry, solitude and memory. Her paintings are invitations of ease, comfort and hope which generally interpret her point-of-view as a woman artist. Reminiscent of early storybook illustrations, her works in this exhibition also tell of her story as someone who wears many hats - woman, singer, housewife, educator and artist. These paintings collectively demonstrate that women can still continue art practice despite domesticity, advocacy and other social expectations.
Gina Luz Francisco is a musician, painter and cultural worker. She also tends a leisure farm in a personal sanctuary she shares with her partner and mentor, painter Orly Castillo. She is an active member of Linangan ng Kulturang Pilipino and Concerned Artists of the Philippines. As a painter, she is greatly influenced by Frida Kahlo and passionate about technique in a range of media. She has been part of group exhibitions since 2010. Flourish is her first solo exhibit.
Flourish is curated by Crown Dolot.
