Tanghalang Ateneo celebrates its 35th Season by staging four classic Greek plays with a contemporary edge -- a season that company members call Reimagining the Greeks.

Ang Bakkhai tells a tale of divine revenge against mortals. The Greek god Dionysus, son of Zeus, returns to Thebes after a three-year absence to punish its officials for maltreating his mother and denying him proper worship. Dionysius comes disguised as a stranger and with him is a band of bacchants, freedom-loving women, who help Dionysius lure the crafty Theban king to his end. Tanghalang Ateneo's version will see the play from the perspective of young people, and will point to the need for balance between control and freedom in one’s personal and social life.

Ang Bakkhai will go onstage this coming September 12 - 14 and 18 – 21, 2013 at the Black Box, Fine Arts Annex, Ateneo de Manila University.
