“Placebo Paintings” stems from the drawn parallelism about thoughts on the act of painting to the empty placebo drug that produces miraculous effects.
Painting, itself, is empty in pragmatic functions, but this too, is its oxymoronic reflex, as its inability to define itself makes it viable for various audience to regard its importance.
A few years after the fabled “Specific Gravities” that transpired also in the same venue, “Placebo Paintings” borrows aspects from the said exhibition in regarding the exchange and dialogue in between each artist in the current exhibition. Basing on the classic principle of Archimedes illustrating the ability of water to seek its own volume and level, this alludes to each artist’s given weight at a particularly moment in his artistic career.
