Helena Alegre, a friend and a brilliant and super talented artist, will showcase her distinctive collection of sculpted silver jewelries in an exhibition, aptly called BULAWAN - honoring the craft so much indicative of Camarines Norte's métier. Camarines Norte, a province in Bicol, has been endowed with rich deposits of precious metals, gold and silver among them. There is little wonder why the metal smithing industry is thriving in this part of the Philippines. The exhibit is an expose of Helena's avant-garde designs where she incorporates the fundamental elements of nature using her ingenuity and expert hand in sculpting silver overlaid on semi precious stones. What attracted me to Helena's artistry is that it does not lend itself to conformity. Evidently, every single piece of jewelry she creates is a true expression of her individuality. I perceive her art to be wonderfully ambivalent or capricious, but her creativity and her distinctive touches come together in a delightful way, creating a feast for the senses.
