Artist José ‘John’ Santos III opens yet another exhibition after his recent successful solo at the UP Vargas Museum last September. In Transition opens 9th November 2013 at the Indigo Gallery of the BenCab Museum in Baguio City. Coming close on the heels of the Vargas exhibit, In Transition showcases paintings and wall-bound vitrines, all objects. Objects stocked spaces in the former, massed depicted spatial depth in paintings, filled volume in assemblage and installation pieces. As such, they consisted the heft of history, both singularly and as the exhibition title suggested, in crowds and heaps.
While John Santos continues his exploration of objects as eloquent forms in this forthcoming exhibition, his paintings become remarkably sparse, combining fewer objects, entwining them into each other that we come to recognize only bits and parts. He confounds appearances by depicting pictures within pictures, paintings and image nested within each other, flattened doubly onto layered pictorial spaces.
IN TRANSITION is brought to the Bencab Museum by Artinformal.
It opens with an artist’s reception on 9th November, 4PM Indigo Gallery of the Bencab Museum, Km. 6 Asin Road Tuba Baguio City.
The exhibition will be on view through 1st December 2013.
