Promdi: Three Talents of Provincial Ancestry
The Museo Orlina presents “Promdi: Three Talents of Provincial Ancestry” at the Reflections Gallery on January 26. 2014.
The title adverts to a colloquial term that is a nativisticcontraction of the phrase “from the province.” From its previous condescending context, the word has evolved to gain currency as a self-announced identity, now tinged with humor and pride.
The persons of Ben Cruz from Laguna, Leopoldo Aguilar from Cebu and Ramon Orlina from Batangas, and their individual artistic talents intersect and converge in TagaytayCity where the Museo Orlina is ideally situated.
Ben Cruz is a multi-awarded visual artist in the Philippines and Singapore. He completed a Fine Arts Degree, major in Advertising from the University of Santo Tomas. He pursued a professional graphic design career at the International Rice Research Institute in Los Baños, Laguna, as well as companies in Saudi Arabia and Singapore. (First prize winner in the 1st Batangas City National Painting Competition last Jan. 11, 2014).
Leopoldo Aguilar received a Certificate of Fine Arts from U.P. Cebu, where he was a Jose Joya awardee. He founded the group known as Neo-Tribolism. Actively participating in numerous group shows, he held a successful show at NakonnaiGallery in Phuket, Thailand.
Ramon Orlina is the renowned pioneering glass sculptor in the country. He is internationally awarded and recognized by the global masters of glass sculptors. His latest monumental project was the Quadrocentennial Monument at the grounds of the University of Santo Tomas.
