King’s Garden brings together a number of artworks whose premises are predicated on the theme of Nebuchadnezzar’s ancient imperial garden as a conceptual, psychological, and cultural space of intrigue. In some pieces, the actual physicality of the scene is addressed. The works collectively constitute a meditation on the literal, historical, and conceptual projections. Some works are arguably a fond or surreal portrait of decadent power, a disconcerting reflection of contemporary reality and a fictional or malaise regarding the current turmoil in the Middle East. And like the expansive and confused imagined spaces, the works in the show will be densely layered, labyrinthine, and mystical.
