Munich-trained volin whiz Chino Gutierrez and his collaborating artist, distinguished pianist Corazon Pineda Kabayao, to play at concert in Bacolod City March 6.
Good news for lovers of classical violin and students of the violin in Bacolod City and neighboring towns and cities: after two acclaimed concerts in Makati and Alabang in recent weeks, and a successful performance before students of SouthRidge School in Alabang, virtuoso Chino Gutierrez "invades" Bacolod City on Thursday, March 6, 2014, to stage a concert at 7 pm. at the Santuario de La Salle, University of St. La Salle.
His Bacolod concert will be held prior to the 23-year old virtuoso's return to Munich, Germany, where he is enrolled at the Munich State Academy of Music and Theater.
Chino, who began his violin career at age 7 under the tutelage of Alfonso “Coke” Bolipata, won second prize in NAMCYA and eventually first prize before he even reached his teens, will have as collaborating artist the distinguished pianist and UST magna cum laude graduate Corazon Pineda Kabayao, wife and musical partner of Visayan virtuoso Gilopez Kabayao.
Equally interesting will be their mini-concert-cum workshop with 90 violin scholars of Silay Mayor Jose "Oti" L. Montelibano at the Balay Negrense in Silay City on Wednesday, March 5, at 3pm.
The classical works to be played at the Gutierrez-Kabayao La Salle concert will include immortal pieces by Ceasar Franck, Stravinsky, Dvorak, Wieniawski and Ravel. A special number will be his rendition of the composition of our National Hero, Dr. Jose Rizal, titled “La Deportacion,” as transcribed and first played in public by maestro Gilopez Kabayao. This beautiful piece evokes the pathos of Rizal’s exile in Dapitan.
Also sure to be applauded will be Chino’s rendition of the stirring “Bayan Ko,” as arranged by the late maestro Redentor Romero, and well-loved Visayan love songs.
These two musical events in Silay/Bacolod were organized by civic leader Lyn Gamboa. Tickets to the March 6 La Salle Bacolod concert are priced at P500 for general public, with 20% senior discount, and P100 for students with ID.
