Unang Agos
May 22-June 23, 2014
Pasilyo Vicente Manansala (2/f hallway gallery)
Cultural Center of the Philippines

Unang Agos, Filipino for “first stream/current”, is the first of a series of exhibitions by Outlooke Pointe Foundation (OPF) Artist Summit participants. For this exhibition, artists Zeus Bascon, Sergio Bumatay and Mica Cabildo immediately took to the exhibit venue. They chose to focus on the site of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, with its rich history and aesthetic brilliance. Exhibiting in the Pasilyo Vicente Manansala, with its view of the Roxas Blvd. and the adjacent Manila Bay, finds both merit and contemplation in the three young artists.

Bascon, Bumatay, and Cabildo, different as their artistic tendencies are, somehow all found inspiration in the materials that burdened them as their work progressed. Making use of found objects, religious adornments, glass, rope, wood, and light, each of the artists struggled with the historical weight and internal meanings of their varied media. Seen together, the final artworks crate an exhibit that questions the meaning of art, history, significance, and identity.

Unang Agos is an exploration of OPF’s enduring vision of constantly seeing things with a new perspective, of expressing passion for the nation through creative expression that eludes any labels traditionally attributed to art.

Opening reception is on May 27, Tuesday at 6pm, with an Artist talk on June 5, Thursday at 2-4pm.

Exhibit runs until June 23, 2014.
