Filipino Myths and Legends
June 17-July 15, 2014
Vargas Museum 3rd Floor Galleries

The UP Vargas Museum and the Center for Art, New Ventures and Sustainable Development (CANVAS) present Filipino Myths and Legends on 17 June 2014, 6PM at the 3F Galleries of the museum.

Filipino Myths and Legends is this year’s exhibition for the CANVAS’ Looking for Juan Outdoor Banner Project. The works draw inspiration from characters in myths and legends found in various regions of the country. The Philippines is rich with tales of origin of things, stories of the supernatural, creatures that thrive in mystic places, and personalities hailed as heroes and modern-day legends. The myths that we grow up with shape our values, our understanding of ourselves and the world around us; and in time, we too learn to create our own myths and legends.

The original artworks are displayed at the 3F Galleries of the museum while the tarpaulin banners are installed around the Academic Oval of the University of the Philippines. After the exhibition, the tarpaulin banners will be recycled into tote bags to support CANVAS’ projects promoting Filipino art and culture.

Filipino Myths and Legends runs until July 15, 2014.
