Exhibit opens on August 2, 2014.

It’s open-house season in Tahan(an).

In the age of migration and impermanence, three artists ask us to revisit the Home in Tahan(an), a group exhibit by artists Dawani de Leon, Alee Garibay and Jose Tanierla at the Art Verite Gallery in Serendra, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig this August.

Tahan(an) peeks behind curtains and tears through windows, excavating stories and memories about the Home. Each artist paints visions of and from the Home, recalling personal memories, reinventing legends and revealing ambivalent feelings about the structure that anchors the self and the family in society.

Shattering windows of conservatism, Tanierla reimagines the story of Urbana and Feliza, creating an alternative that defies set rules about women and the Home. Delving more into the Home’s central character, the woman, Garibay paints in layered meanings, concealing yet revealing violent struggles for identity.

Personal recollections and muted emotions meanwhile comprise de Leon’s works, lending vibrant pastels to the perceived harmony of relations inside the Home.
